Piercing – Main information
When you have decided to get pierced, the first step is to find a good piercer and take a look around at his or her shop. Hygiene and a sterile environment are key in finding a good piercer. There are various types of piercings and metals with which you can get pierced and/or wear after getting your piercing. The choices for jewellery depend on the type of piercing you had done. We have a wide range of piercing jewellery for daily use in our shop.
These are the most common places to get pierced:
Earlobe
The earlobe is the most common and accepted place to get pierced. There is no specific place in the earlobe to get a piercing. You can get one or several piercings in the same ear. Placement is determined by the wishes of the customer.
Cartilage
The endless possibilities of placing this piercing makes it a very popular one. You can get your cartilage pierced on any spot on the ear.
Tragus
This piercing is popular in both genders, and is worn at the opening of the ear. You can either wear a ‘BallClosure Ring’ or a ‘Barbell’ for this piercing.
Nose
Nose piercings have been around for ages and are very common. You can get your nose pierced at any spot you prefer.
Eyebrow:
Eyebrow piercings have grown in popularity in a rapid pace and have become one of the most asked for piercings. The eyebrow piercing can be placed at any spot in the eyebrow.
Lip:
The lip can be pierced at any spot around the mouth, either above the upper lip or below the lower lip. You can also get pierced below the lower lip, and just above the chin, using a ‘Labret Stud’.
Tongue:
This piercing is common and loved by both women and men. A bigger Barbell is used for the swelling after piercing, and should be replaced by a smaller piece within 10 to 24 days, depending on the size of your tongue.
Belly button:
Egypt royalty regularly wore belly button piercings, which rapidly spread out to the rest of the world. This piercing is more common to be worn by women, but is slowly gaining popularity by men. This piercing can be placed at any spot around the belly button, with a maximum of four. There is a wide range of jewellery available for this piercing.
Nipple:
Nipple piercings were popular even in the days of Queen Victoria of England. This piercing is very sensual either for men or women; it’s attractive and makes the nipple stand out more. This piercing is usually placed horizontally or vertically, but can be placed in any way desired. Up to two piercings can be placed in one nipple. B.C.R.’s and Barbells can be used for this piercing.
Madonna:
This piercing is placed above the upper lip and/or in the cheek region. A ‘Labret Stud’ is used for this piercing.
This is just a small glimpse of the many possibilities for piercings!
After you get pierced, it’s very important to make sure the ‘wound’ is clean and free of bacteria.
If a new piercing isn’t kept clean, you might risk an infection.
Piercings should not be covered up by bandages. Letting the ‘wound’ heal in clean air is the best for your piercing. You should clean the piercing two to three times a day. Do not forget to dry off thoroughly, since bacteria love wet and moist places.
You should be extra careful with facial piercings, since make-up and hair products can disturb the healing process of your piercing and therefore might cause irritation or even an infection.
Nipples and belly buttons are a little trickier, because these are usually covered by clothing. Make sure you don’t wear tight clothes in the process of letting your piercing heal. Avoid materials that itch, or make your skin warm and sweaty. Again, bacteria love this.
When your piercing feels hard, is red or is painful, use a flannel towel, drenched in hot sea salt water and press this against your piercing. This should clean the wound from the inside out. Be sure to only use carefully selected jewellery, since some materials can cause infections. If you think your jewellery might cause your piercing to irritate, you might want to consider buying from our Titanium collection, these are produced with the highest medial quality. Titanium will not cause any infections, this is the reason why the material is used when making pacemakers and other implants.
Remember, saving money on piercing jewellery is usually very soon forgotten when you have an infection and need medial care!
